Title: The Door Within
Author: Wayne Thomas Batson
Publisher: Thomas Nelson
Several years ago, a friend recommended The Door Within to me. I decided to pick it up at the library, and was smart enough to get the consecutive books as well. From the first chapter, I was hooked. I read the entire trilogy in a few days and couldn’t put the series down. Since then, I’ve read several of Wayne Thomas Batson’s other books and loved them.
Well, we’re about two weeks away from perhaps the biggest holiday of the year: Christmas!Christmas is always a busy time. Making travel plans, shopping, wrapping gifts, cooking…it’s easy to get overwhelmed. And distracted. It’s so easy to get caught up in the gifts, the decorating, the traditions, and did I mention the gifts? Christmas has because such a commercialized holiday that I often forget what the point of it really is.
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given” ~Isaiah 9:6
Two thousand years ago, our Savior was born in the humblest of circumstances. He came to bring us life and to save us from our sins. He came as a scapegoat, to undergo a punishment we should have received.
We celebrate Christmas to remind us of God’s love and grace. Christmas isn’t about the gifts or the traditions. It isn’t about Santa Claus or reindeer or snowmen. It’s about the birth of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
So as we prepare for Christmas and opening our gifts (because we all know that’s the main thing we look forward to! 😉 ), let’s stop and remember the reason we celebrate–that two thousand years ago God gave us the most precious gift, one we never deserved.
This week’s post: an interview with Tim Shoemaker, author of the exciting teen mystery novel, Code of Silence, and the sequels, Back Before Dark and Below the Surface! I had the pleasure of meeting him at both the 2014 and the 2015 Colorado Christian Writer’s Conference. He’s a really cool guy with a great sense of humor, which shines through in his books. 🙂 I was honored that he agreed to do this interview.
